Landscaping Around House

Landscaping the grounds around the house has many benefits. Perhaps the most obvious benefit of garden around the house is that it makes the home more attractive not just to its owners but other people as well. Also, landscaping can raise the value of the property. It can also make the home more environment-friendly, thereby decreasing the costs of heating and cooling it. Here are some of the tips you should remember in landscaping your house:

  1. Recognize Your Needs and Wants.

Here are some questions to guide you: do your children need more space for play? Or do you want to grow more vegetables and flowers? Or you need a patio where you can gather the family during weekends? Knowing your needs and wants would help you think of ideas how to landscape your property.

  1. Start Small.

Unless you have a lot of money to burn, the chances are small that you will be able to pull off a major landscaping project in a short time. You also don’t have a large crew to complete outdoor makeovers in a span of days and weeks, like those you see in home and garden TV programs. So build up your landscaping project slowly. You can begin with a small flowerbed. Give yourself an hour or two every day to work on it. You’d be surprised to see that the little flowerbed would grow into a huge garden in a year or two.

  1. Grow Trees

Growing trees are one good way to start the landscaping around the house. Trees can make your yard look more beautiful. It can also provide shade during hot summer days. It can also give more privacy to your yard. You have numerous choices when it comes to trees. If you want a tree for ornamental purposes, plant a Japanese maple which grows up to 20 feet and offers tolerance for shade. This is an excellent choice to adorn your lawn or pool. Or you can grow citrus trees that can bear fragrant flowers as well as edible fruits. But these small trees require a lot of maintenance.

  1. Scale and Pacing.

Three should be level and pacing in your yard. It’s a very tricky principle especially if it’s your first time to landscape your house. But the point is that there should be some repetitive elements in your yard, like a standard color, a particular plant, or a familiar shape. This does not mean that there should be one plant or one color to your garden. Mix things up, so to speak, by adding an intermittent element.

  1. Be Open to Changes

Landscaping is a continuous process. The plant that you liked a couple of years ago may find itself irrelevant today. So be open to changes, and be patient as much as possible. Landscaping your house grounds is something you’ll be doing for a long time. These are just some of the tips to get you started in landscaping around the house. So are you ready to get your hands dirty?
